  • Colby Cox

    Co-Founder / Managing Partner

    Colby Cox is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Convergence Investments, LLC, as well as an accomplished entrepreneur with a devout passion for starting and growing companies. Spending the majority of his career in real estate investment, Cox has developed more than $500 million worth of real estate assets since the formation of Convergence Investments in 2002. He led the growth of multiple ventures and investment funds over the past 15 years, including the Convergence Opportunity Fund platform. As President of Convergence Investments, he oversees the entirety of the firm’s real estate and private equity holdings, which currently total more than $150 million in assets under management.  Cox also serves on the board of several nationally affiliated non-profits, and has appeared on boards and advisory panels for the US Green Building Council, and multiple privately held companies.  He currently serves on the Resource Council and the Finance Committee for the Grand Teton National Park Foundation.  Cox is a former member of the Kellogg Venture Community—a nonprofit entity which seeks to bridge the gap between innovation and capital for start-up companies.  As a business owner, Cox is committed to the promotion of entrepreneurial leadership, and remains actively involved in several entrepreneurial learning and leadership organizations.  Cox is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization, a group of approximately 20,000 members in more than 120 countries that strive for better leaders through education and idea exchange.  He currently serves as Chairman of the Big Sky YPO Chapter, and is a member of the Jackson Hole YPO Chapter. Cox received a B.S. in Real Estate Finance and Construction Management from the University of Denver, where he was a 4 year starter and captain of their Division 1 lacrosse team. In 2009, he earned an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

  • Douglas Freedman

    Co-Founder / Managing Partner 

    Douglas Freedman is  Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Convergence Invesments, LLC. Mr. Freedman has over 17 years of experience and previously worked for Pritzker Realty Group (PRG) and Walt Disney Company where he completed over $150 million in transactions and dispositions including the development of residential and commercial land, mixed-use village centers, hotels, multi-family for sale and for rent projects and the creation of mixed-use traditional neighborhood design communities. His responsibilities have included the development and disposition of over 10,000 lots and 2.5 million square feet of commercial. At PRG, Mr. Freedman served as the Director of Development for the Baldwin Park Development Company. Baldwin Park is a unique redevelopment of a 1,100-acre parcel that was formerly The Orlando Naval Training Center and is now a mixed-use community with neighborhoods, shops, offices and schools. Baldwin Park was awarded an Award of Excellence from the Urban Land Institute for the “Best master planned community of its kind in the country”. Mr. Freedman performed all land sale negotiations and joint venture analyses for Baldwin Park and completed over $100 million in transactions including single-family, multi-family for rent, condominiums, retail and office transactions. Mr. Freedman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Denison University, and an MBA from the University of North Carolina.

    • Ben Bartlett

      President / COO

      Ben Bartlett is President and Chief Operating Officer of Convergence Investments, LLC. Mr. Bartlett has 15 years of real estate investing and transaction experience. His responsibilities include running the firm’s Corporate Operations and implementing the strategic plan. Prior to joining the Convergence team, Mr. Bartlett was Vice President of corporate operations and asset management for Washington, D.C.-based private equity firms Artemis Real Estate Partners and Easterly Partners. He was responsible for the build-out and management of operations and asset management systems for over $4 billion of real estate equity investments. During his time at Easterly Partners Mr. Bartlett was a leading member of the senior management team responsible for taking the firm public through its IPO on the NYSE.
      Before his experience in the principal private equity business, Mr. Bartlett worked in CMBS distressed debt workouts with CW Capital. He managed a portfolio of over 60 CMBS loan and REO transactions and dispositions worth over $500 million. Mr. Bartlett earned a B.S. in Finance from Towson University.

      • Stephen Melanson

        Vice President of Accounting and Controls

        Melanson began working with Convergence Management Co. (CMC) in August of 2007 as the controller. He has over 12 years experience in accounting and business management, ranging from the medical industry to commercial and residential real estate investment. Melanson monitors and controls all aspects of CMC’s accounting and reporting systems, and is responsible for monitoring multiple partnerships and affiliations in a wide range of real estate investment. He is an integral part of the leadership team, and provides financial reporting, forecasting, and financial strategy to enhance overall portfolio performance. Melanson has served as AP Clerk, Senior Accountant, and Consultant to a rural-regional hospital, overseeing the implementation of the facility’s new accounting systems. He has also served as Controller at a publicly owned outpatient surgical facility and a local commercial/residential construction firm. Melanson uses his extensive knowledge in accounting to utilize best use outcomes and provides real estate companies with long term financial solutions. Melanson has a B.S. from the University of South Carolina.

        • Matt Lusins, CFA

          Director of Business Development

          Prior to Convergence, Matthew was a Managing Director and Partner at Meritage Group LP, a $10B multi-family office for employees of Renaissance Technologies, most notably the Simons Family. He joined the Meritage division within Renaissance in 2005 and was made a Partner when the group spun-out as a separate entity in 2011. Based in New York City, Matt focused primarily on sourcing, underwriting and partnering with blue-chip alternative investment managers for a multi-manager portfolio that grew from $1B to over $6B during his 12 years at Meritage. He led and oversaw more than $2.5B in investments across a wide range of strategies and geographies, including many of the industry’s most exclusive and respected managers.

          Prior to Meritage, Matthew spent two years as an Associate at DB Advisors, then a $6B internal multi-strategy hedge fund platform within Deutsche Bank. While at DB Advisors, he was part of an eight-person team that built an $800mm hedge fund managed account platform and led several investments in long-short equity and event-driven managers.

          Before DB Advisors, Matthew was an early employee and Analyst at The Carlyle Group’s newly created Carlyle Asset Management Group, now known as Rock Creek. Based in Washington, DC, he focused on manager research and due-diligence and helped the firm win its first institutional mandate.

          Matthew started his career at the United States Senate in Washington, DC where he was the Special Assistant to the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, the Senior Senator from New York and Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

          Matthew received a BA from Boston University in 1998 where he was a four-year scholarship athlete for Men’s Heavyweight Crew. He received his MSc from The London School of Economics in 2001. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2008.

          Matthew and his wife, Erin, reside in Jackson, WY and have three children, ages six, four and one. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, mountain biking, skiing, golfing, hiking, and grilling.

          • Donald Watkins

            Sales & Marketing Director

            Don Watkins joined Convergence Investments as a project manager and financial analyst in 2011. His accomplished account management background and strong analytical proficiencies, combined with extensive communications and marketing experience, led him to assume the role of Director of Marketing for all projects managed under the Convergence Opportunity Fund Platform and its affiliates. From development oversight and deal level analysis to the creation and management of master planned community marketing campaigns, Watkins skill set is vast. He is a founding member of the Young Professionals of the Tetons, an organization dedicated to bringing accomplished and aspiring young professionals of Teton County together, and a an active team member and volunteer with the Teton County Search & Rescue. Watkins graduated summa cum laude from the University of Vermont, earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, specializing in finance and entrepreneurship, along with a minor in Resort Marketing & Management.

          • Spencer Van Schaack

            Vice President of Development

            Spencer Van Schaack joined Convergence in 2014 as a Project Manager and Analyst. Van Schaack has extensive project management experience after working for a national commercial contractor on multiple large projects. He has managed projects ranging from $10-20 Million and has been part of award winning construction teams. Van Schaack is well versed in analyzing and coordinating project progress, costs, budgets, and cash flow while managing strict schedules. Van Schaack earned his BA in Geography from Syracuse University and his MBA with a concentration in Real Estate and Construction Management from The University of Denver.

          • Amy Puccia

            Director of Special Projects & Investor Relations

            Amy Puccia joined Convergence Investments at the start of 2014 as an Executive Assistant. Amy manages internal communications, investor relations, and provides high-level support to the Managing Partners. Coming from the Media industry, Amy has a background in corporate partnerships where she successfully built custom multi-media packages for her clients. Executing multiple projects while managing client expectations and relationships has given Amy the experience needed to enhance the productivity and efficiency of the Convergence team. Amy received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and a minor in French from Lynchburg College in Virginia.
